Personally I think you've hit the nail on the head here. The print
will be worth whatever it's worth to you. Are you buying it to enjoy
it, or as a collectible for future sale? If it's the latter, see if
you can verify whether it's at least a limited edition printing run of
some sort.

Last year I bought a Giclee print of a watercolor, printed on textured
canvas. I got my nose right up to the print, and to my (admittedly
untrained) eye, it was indistinguishable from an original. I could
see that the print even reproduced some of the mostly-erased pencil
lines used by the artist as he was working. And boy, they look like
mostly-erased pencil lines to me.

When I first saw it on display, and was told it was a Giclee print, I
got online and did some research. Then, I talked to a buddy of mine
from college who frames art for a living. He basically let me know
that Giclee is indeed an inkjet print, but it's a lot higher dpi than
you can achieve with an off-the-shelf unit at Best Buy. (He also
teased me about my pronounciation of "Giclee" but that's neither here
nor there.) <grin>

He also warned me that quality will vary from print to print.
Fortunately, in my case, I was able to see the print up close and in
person before making my purchase.

I won't pretend to think my print will be worth anything substantial
to anyone when I'm old, grey, and distributing my worldly possessions
to my family members. But right now, it's up on my wall, and I enjoy
it a great deal. And it's worth every penny I paid for it.
