Well, the announcement certainly caught many off guard since it was
only made about two weeks ago. Maybe the higher-ups caught wind of my
HFIL column I posted on August 9 (found right here:
http://www.geocities.com/TelevisionCity/Studio/8307/hfil/hfil1.html ).
Oh, and you cynics out there, I have statistical proof that individuals
from Sci-Fi's minority owner, Seagram's, have visited the site.

Actually, this is Bohbot's first solo production. The core of this new
company used to be Graz Entertainment (see Monster Rancher).

That is, unless you have Sci-Fi.
Actually, to differentiate itself from the Mainframe-produced Beast
Wars (and it's future spinoff Beast Machines), Adelaide changed the
name of the series from Starship Troopers: Bug Wars to Roughnecks:
Starship Troopers. Still, it's already one of the best shows of the
new season.

Sorry, this series comes from two different sources: TMS and Stephanie
Graziano. TMS is one of the best animation studios on the planet and
has a reputation of animating good shows from Bionic Six to Galaxy High
to Batman: TAS to Spider-Man (not Unlimited). Stephanie Graziano,
founder of Graz Entertainment (responsible for the first seasons of X-
Men, The Tick, and the American Street Fighter series as well as
Skeleton Warriors) isn't a newcomer to anime. Her studio's dub of
Ronin Warriors (Premiering 9-27-99 5:30 PM EST on Toonami)is one of the
most faithful anime productions to date. Now she's responsible for
this Pokemon-esque series. Of course this show also has elements of
Captain N and Legend of Zelda as well, proving itself to be a bit
smarter than the other Pokeclone Digimon and a little better than
Pokemon!!!
As an added "bonus," BKN brought back the mid-80's Rambo animated
series. At first, I thought that they were making an entirely new
series, but once again, I was proven wrong.
Have you noticed how inferior the DiC contributions to BKN (Double
Dragon, Mummies Alive and Street Sharks) are?

You should like Gabe. It's another variation on the aforementioned
macho loner type (kicking ass, chewing gum, that dsort of thing) -- and
Bob Forward does them like nobody's business. His name on the project
guarantees me a full viewing of the series.
Just FYI, the artwork looks to be the stuff from leftover WildC.A.T.S.
staffers. Animation on the premiere courtesy on Jiunweh [sp?], a
Chinese studio that has some Capt. Simian work behind it.

Under NO circumstances, says I. I'm sure the writers'll find something
for these poor blokes to do other than shoot bugs all season.

Or to be more specific, providing good animation to shows of varying
quality...

For better or worse...

To be honest, Digimon wasn't as horrible as I was expecting. Noted
John Ludin's name in the writing credits, and he's written some good
eps of Littlest Pet Shop in the past. (He also wrote a few eps of the
CBS Back to the Future series from a few years back, but I'll leave
comments on that to more educated folks.) He might make a few eps
tolerable -- seeing as how the characters do little but chatter.

For better or worse. Then again, I don't think any 90s Rambo, no
matter how bad, would come up with a line like "Only one man can do the
job...RAMBO!"
Street Sharks, eat your heart out.
Animatophiles looking for a jolly good time should check out the
credits. Tom Minton, Kevin Altieri, Doug Wildey, Jack Kirby, and Dick
Sebast all had a high ol' time padding their resumes on this bad boy.

I wouldn't put MA in the same league as the other two, but yeah, things
are looking down. Any worse, and it'd be Toonami :)

P.S., for a good time, listen to Thundercats in Spanish through the SAP
track. Improves the voice editing considerably.
