Hello everyone,
I would like to set up my 15 gal. aquarium after years of it lying
around my house fishless and empty. I have a dynaflo 20 HOB filter that
i have been using but i want to try a different approach with adding
media.

My filter is intended to be used with the ever popular carbon filter
cartridges but i would like to add some more biological power to this
filter by including some form of "layerage" of different filter media.
The problem is that i lack the innovative brainpower in order to make
this filter do what I want it to. Here are some pics for you to see
what i will be working with.

The water flows in just above the impeller and so rises and overflows
out the lip, so i am thinking the media will ave to be placed for that
bu tI am unsure if i will need separations for each media type or how
exactly to place them in the filter so that all this would make sense.

I have been tirelessly searching online for pics on how power filters
are layered with different media but to no avail. I however noticed
that the aquaclear line of filters use a Basket type unit that holds
diffeent media but i am not sure I can adopt that concept to suit this
filter because i am unsure of the flow pattern required for such a
setup. Can anyone help me out with this? It would be cool if i could do
this without having to buy a whole new filter because this one performs
really well.
