What is a Decent Test Kit?

It seems as though everyone has the same types of tank probs. and they
all boil down to the same results....water quality!

Well, being new to this, I read all of what people have to say and
deduct my best route.
With my tank setup for 8mos now:
46gal
FOLR
skimmed
@80deg.
3.8 watt/gal mixed lighting
+/- 15 total inches of fish
couple scallops

Testing @
pH 8.4
Ammonia 0
Nitrite 0
Nitrate 10
sg (low 1.0185) due recovering ICK prob, but normally 1.020 - 1.023)

I have a cynobacter/blue/green dust prob.....which is solved, from what
I read by water quality.....which from what I can see is fine.......

Is my Red Sea Marine Test Lab inaccurate?
If so, can anyone suggest a more precise kit?
-Or- Am I just doomed from the get-go....

One that gives consistent and accurate results for parameter it was designed
to test.

Salifert probably has the best kits for our application. Some other good kits are certain
kits from Aquarium Systems, HACH, La Mott, Sachem, Taylor, HF Scientific and
Orbeco-Hellige. Red Sea are pretty much at the bottom and I wouldn't even own a Hagen or
Aquarium Pharmaceutical.

I second the Salifert assesment. I've had the Aquarium systems tests for
Ca,nitrate,nitrite,ammonia,phosphate,ph and I'm gradually replacing them
with Salifert kits. So far I have their Ca,Alk,silica and nitrate tests
and am quite satisfied with all of them. The only concern I have is that
it doesn't seem that replacement chemicals are available for their tests.
I guess when you run out you have to replace the whole kit each time? Kind
of a waste.

AS has pretty good kits for pH, Nitrate, Nitrite, ammonia and alk. The AS kits are a joint
venture between Aquarium Systems and HACH, only more applicable to seawater and the ranges
we need. Aquatroincs, Kordon and the old AS kits are off the self relabeled HACH. Matter
of fact all three, new or old use, reagents made by HACH
