I've been using it for the past three weeks, only about1/4 of the recomended
dose (because I'm always suspicious of liquid food). As I can see the only
thing it has accieved is a good crop of red(ish) slime algae. If anything
the corrals have remained closed for longer then before.
I have now stopped using it to see if the algae goes away.
Martin.
I use it. No problems. I use it only once a week (A teaspoon 5 mils).
Not sure if it works or not, but no advers reactions.

I have tried a few types of phytoplankon, Kent Marine's product included. The
problem with this product as I see it is that a preservative has been added
diluting the product which can now be sold "off the shelf" instead of DT's
phytoplankton which needs to be kept in the fridge b/c its living. This does
little for the nutritional value of the phyto. Additionally, this dead phyto
starts to decompose almost immediately and if not eaten say within an hour or
two they will be broken down by bacteria etc. in your tank. Thus, overfeeding
(say even at the bottles directions) may cause bacteria blooms (red algae as
you have seen).
I'm going to try some of the cryo pastes available on the market by Instant
Algae--much more concentrated than DT's phyto. thus get more bugs for the $$.
You can also maintain a viable phyto. culture using DT's to feed some
saltwater, add lots of light and some circulation and sit back and watch
them grow.

As Frank also mentioned in an early post to this thread, the phyto. doesn't
feed the coral directly--think of it as a food for the LR/LS critters which
multiply and produce food for the corals. Yes, SPS are more critical for
phyto. feeding but remember everything can benefit b/c your feeding the
primary food chain if you will---> goes on to feed the corals, LR etc..
Cryo paste is dead too. Yet its more concentrated and thus more for your
$$; Kent stuff is diluted, has preservatives added and costs more. DT's
is good (alive) but costs alot of $$ for the amount of phyto. you get
and need.
