Longest you've had a particular fish

I was having a conversation with a coworker who stated that it simply wasn't
possible to keep marine fish alive in a "normal" sized aquarium for more
than 5 years.
I told him that was ridiculous and that if you maintain your aquarium's well
you have no problem keeping most fish for their normal lifespan, if not
longer.
So, how long have you had your fish? And on average how long do you think
your fish live in your aquarium?
I know there will be a big difference depending on the type of fish, but
overall what do you think the average lifespan of the marine fish you keep
is?

still think it's interesting anyway. About 8 years ago I bought a couple of
cute little gourami's for my brother's 125 gallon tank. He had quite a
collection of other interesting fish back then, but today he only has one of
the original gourami's, and it's HUGE (looks bigger than my 7 year old
cat!). Now that it's so big, watching it make kissing movements with its
lips is hilarious!

A friend had a Qeen Angel for 18years.

Most Marine fish will live a long life in captivity if kept in the right
conditions and given the room to thrive................Jeff
