Is there a definitive how-to book for
marine beginners? Maybe one that covers
FO and REEF tanks with plenty of photos
showing equipment usage etc and is current.

Thanks in advance!

I'm a newbie too, but...
3 I like are:

The New Marine Aquarium by Michael Palleta, 1999
(FO with live rock__ fowlr)

This one is very basic, but very clear. Nice illustrations.
Some stuff on saving money. Fish compatibilty. Best total
newbie book, imo.

Natural Reef Aquarium by John Tullock, 1997
If I wanted to curl up with one this is it!!

Conscientious Aquarist by Robert Fenner, 1998
btw, Fenner is does questions and answers on some ?
webpage...
LOTS of info.

All are pretty current. Tullock's has the best pictures, imo.
