Freshwater parasite? - please help!

Can anyone tell me what it is?

Any help would be appreciated. I don't want to "nuke" the tank if this is
not a parasite. It just swims around sometimes, but most of the time it
tries to burrow itself into the gravel.

Looks like a planaria type flatworm to me. If it is, they are harmless.

Difficult to get a size reference from the photos.

They are about half an inch in length.. Sorry, should have thought to
include a size reference in the pictures!

That would fit. Sounds like a planaria (sp.) to me. Again, if this is
indeed planaria, they are harmless. Do you have access to a microscope?
Even a child's toy model will have sufficient magnification to determine the
species.

Many fish will not eat planaria (flatworms) but I have found that guppies(!)
will along with some others such as bettas.
