When I tried hornwart the plant lasted less than 24 hours. But then I
have goldfish who will eat an entire cube of tubifex worms in one
gulp. The only things you could try are to keep the tank constantly
stocked with slices of zuchini, and cut a few holes in half a 2 liter
soda bottle and put it over the plants.

3 largeish goldfish, 6"+ from nose to the end of their tail fins
Amazon swords of several varieties
Sagittaria subulata
Vallisneria americana and tortifolia (corkscrew)
several crypts
Nymphoides aquatica (banana plants)
several Hygrophila sp.
Nymphea sp., small ones
Aponogeton sp.
Rotala rotundifolia
Crinum natans
Egeria densa
Ceropteris sp.
and my latest acquisition from the wild (since it is illegal to sell in
Texas)
Eichhornia crassipes.
Old or dying plant material seems to be easier to chew than fresh new
growth. As a result, the goldfish keep everything nice and neat and
trimmed without showing any signs of stress or being gnawed on.
The unifiying theory of which plants are good with goldfish - no frilly
lacy leaves, good root systems, a good environment otherwise, and you are
good to go.
Good Luck!

You can also get the goldfish to pay less attention to plants by feeding
them more vegetables, e.g., in a jello made with gelatin and pureed
vegetables, or just by feeding them steamed peas.

I found that anything that the GF could NOT bite works.
If the GF could bit it, they would not eat it,
they just pulled the plant out of the gravel
