Is Java Moss a good choice for a tank with plants and some fish?? What
is your opinion of the plant?? Does it grow out of control? Does it
grow on everything. I just fastened a golf ball size to one of my
rocks. Will it stay in that area or spread throughout the tank??

Yes. In fact it is one of my favorite plants. It grows just about anywhere
in any lighting condition up to (and maybe including) a dark bathroom.
Pretty good for absorbing excess nutrients in low light tanks where nothing
else will work.

very good

Only if you let it. Like anything else, it needs to be trimmed back. It
tends to grow fairly slowly, in comparison to some other plants.

It will grow onto just about anything, but is fairly easy to remove with
your fingers.

It may spread, but you can control it easily with basic maintenance.

It spreads, it grows moderately quickly in all sorts of light,
it entangles itself in the roots of other plants, is a good
spawning medium. Generally I grow it in a tank by itself or with
floating plants.

I have see photos of it in aquascaping and it looks great. I have been
trying to find some but my LFS says it is out of season. Someone from
the newsgroups said they were going to send me some but I never received
it. I guess I want it too bad! If there is anone out there that can
send me some I would really appreciate it, and will pay.

You got the address of any websites that show this? I am trying to get
some idea into how I can decorate with these things since I just let it flow
around..

Thanks bladesj,

Btw, I thought most people use riccia as a carpet, does Java moss work as
well? I mean, if I use a nylon net to cover the java moss, will it grow
out of the net like what riccia does?

Thanks

those photos are awesome aren't they?
with java moss you can use nylon sting to attach it to the rocks. I am
waiting to get my hands on some. I am gong to attach it to this large
piece of driftwood I have in my tank and I am going to try and use it
for carpeting also. i do not know if it will grow out of the netting
like the riccia does but try the nylon thread. I think Bigg Dogg
suggested this some time ago. sooo BD feel free to jump in here.

They LFS guy told me that it needs to be at the top of the tank so it can
grow out of the water. Any truth to this?

Nope. I've had it growing like crazy tied to bog log sitting on the floor of my
tank. It'll grow pretty much anywhere.

No. Mine is on a piece of driftwood and spreading rapidly. Some of
it is under the driftwood, but none is out of the water.

Java moss is easy, easy easy, will grow like a weed and make you feel really
good about
being able to grow aquatic plants.

You can always take out the parts that fill up the tank.

Good plant.
