Hello, Everybody
This my first message to this newsgroup. I'm in the process of creating a
planted aquarium. What I have is a 100 gallon tank, two 4 foot Coralife
"Trichromatic" super daylight bulbs, a Ocean Clear micron filter and trickle
(which I changed the trickle into a chemical canister for peat..lots) and
last but not least about five small Java fern plants, which I received
though the mail.
PH= 6.6
Temp= 78
Nitrate= 170 ppm. (way too high) I know.. I'm doing small 4 to 6 gallon
water changes everyday. Left over from a fish tank, big fish !.....
Ammonia=0 ppm.
CO2= unknown (no test kit yet) Turned off at night.

Oh yea, about a dozen Guppies.
Is this setup good enough for growing these "easy to grow plants" ?

Any suggestions ?

Thanks......Cliff

Just barely. I suggest that you double your lighting.

Yes, double your lighting, but add all the other plants you want at the same time.
Else, the increased light with not enough plants to take up the nutrient will
lead to an algae explosion.

To let your plant root well ,I would suggest you to put fertiliser into
your gravel, believe me, you will see the difference

If all you're planning to grow are Java ferns, your light is adequate for
them; they're relatively low-light plants.
