Food production globally is dependent on fertilizers. But in spite of all these, there are certain parts of the globe where there is nutrient deficiency and there is some where there is nutrient excess. Management of the minerals for the plants nutrient needs the careful usage of skill and science to meet specific goals of production, environment and social goals.

For most people excessive water hardness in their aquarium is much more
a concern than lack of nurtrients. Therefore I cannot imagine anyone
deliberatley adding limestone except under very special circumstances.

People keeping Malawi and Tanganyika cichlids often add calcium
carbonate to help keep the water hard and alkaline as it is in the
lakes.
