I am interested in starting a goldfish tank and a local pet store said the
water needs to be cold for best results, like around 60 degrees F. What's
the best way to keep a tank cool and how often does the water need to be
changed?

Thanks for your help!

Dan.

Here are two great links for the basics.

As to temperature, most goldfish aquariums are kept at, or near, room
temperature. Fancy goldfish are reported to do better at a slightly higher
temperature (75F or so). Goldfish can certainly tolerate 60F, but it is not
a target you need to worry about.
