I"m starting a new 10G planted community tank. I have previously had
a betta in a 5g tank, but it and the tank died. Now that I have a
ten gallon tank, I was thinking of a single male betta, with a school
of black phantom tetra's (maybe 5 or so?) My research shows they both
should be ok in a community tank. Anyone here have any experience or
other reccomendations for living with a betta? I'm still cycling my
tank at the moment so I have time to think about it.

Bettas are not only aggressive to other bettas, they are aggressive to fish
with flashy colors or large flowing fins, or any combination of the two.
Mine killed two sailfin mollies, and a sunburst platy. In one day!

Hi, I've kept bettas with all sorts of fish succesfully from kissing
gourami's to serpae tetras so a school of phantom tetras should be ok.Keep
an eye on the tetras though they may be inclined in nipping his fins. But
phantoms are among the most peaceful of tetras so i doubt they will do
this.
Good luck,
Carlos

If you like your betta with small fins. I have found the Red/Black
Phantom and Serpea Tetras to be fin nippers and love the betta's fins.

Hi

I had a Betta in a tank with 6 Serpae Tetras (quite closely related to
Phantoms) and the Betta lasted two days, ripped to shreds by the
Phantoms. the long fins were just too tempting!

ciao
