Just how much faster will the Oscar grow then the Texas guy? Am I correct in
that Texas cichlids get about 12 inches in length, the same as the Oscar? Will
the Oscar grow faster? I sure hope so, cause he is growing so fast as it is, I
would dread to think of this Texas dude growing that fast!

I've kept the two together and the oscars grow much faster.
Don't worry. As long as the oscar is in no danger and is eating, everything
will be fine. The oscar will fight but (correct me if I'm wrong) you only
have two in a 55 gallon and they're only 5". There's no need for fighting
here. When they get bigger, the Oscar my return some aggression.
Actually, if you ask me, a green terror or synspillum would be a better
match. All the terrors I have owned lived up to their name in show, but not
in battle. Also, the synspillum grows very fast, gets just as large or
even larger than the Oscar, not a real nuisance as some of the other centrals
but can get nasty with smaller cichlids.
