Hi Suzie - Norman Prescott Davies FRS is listed as, Miniaturist, portrait
and figure painter. Worked in London and Isleworth 1880-1900 and
fl.1890-1910.
The I have a similar 'picture' at home by this artist , now mine is a
hand-coloured print on silk, the setting is the same, in mine one of the
ladies is seated wearing a pale blue dress, the other is standing fixing
the other's hair, she is a pinkish-ochre colour dress, there are lions
mouths with water pouring out into the baths and a vase of flowers to the
right of the standing lady. The style would be in the manner of the
'Pre-Raphaelite' movement. Now, because mine is basically a print
(certainly 19th century) this would usually indicate that the original from
which it, was copied, would normally be quite a famous work, or that there
may have been no original (ie one off painting) and this was made solely as
a print and produce in numerous copies. I would also add, because Davies is
listed as a 'Miniaturist' the original *painting* may have been a miniature
and the prints made from that.
So maybe you do have an original *painting* by Davies or a print like mine,
hard to know without seeing it, if you can determine the medium yourself
well and good, if not, take it to an Fine Art expert and get his advice.
-And if *you* find out anything more about Davies I would be please to know
;-) Hope this helps a little.
