Pocket, Table, Touch-tip and Strike lighters. Paying highest prices for Clean
Strikers, Touch-Tips and unusual shaped pocket lighters.
Strikers
A strike lighter is basically a reusable match. Strikers were made mostly as
functional novelty items, most are in the shape of figures though some are
designed for their for desk decoration. The, "Match" part is also called
the, "wand". This is a wick tipped metal rod that is stored submersed in
lighter fluid in the figure. The figure also has a strip of flint that the
wand is struck on.
In looking for these I would recomend looking for metal items that have a
curious hole in them and a groove for flint. There are about 50 known strike
lighters made by Ronson. Not all are marked, while most are marked either,
"Ronson", "Art Metal Works", or "L. V. Aronson." All are made of pot metal,
but Ronson finished them in a broad assortment of realistic finishes including,
bronze, aged bronze, (w/ green highlights) copper, brass, chrome, and a black
painted finish.
Touch Tip lighters
Touch tips are similar to the strikers but the spark is created by a mechanism.
There is a button, that when pushed, sends a shower of sparks directed towards
the, "Wand" tip. These came in in mostly modern geometric shapes with the
exception of the, "Bartenders" These are also usually missing the wands.
There are about 50 of these as well. These are also frequently included in
cigarette boxes and also made as desk clocks. These are the ones I am really
interested in.
Pocket lighters
Ronson pocket lighers were made in at least 70 different models. there are
also about 40 different models of lighter cases. The lighters to buy are ones
that have interesting shapes to them. Ronson made lots of different shaped
lighters including heart and a couple of round models, and lots of variations
on the rectangle and square theme. Ronson also made Lightercases with ladies
compacts built in to them (these are rare). Pre-war Ronsons can be identified
by the fact that they only have one Fulcrum screw head. The fulcrum screw is
the screw that the mechanism pivots on. Postwar lighter use two screws, a male
and female screw that meet in the middle and each have their own heads or
slots making two one on each side.
I do not buy silver plated lighters.
Also buying some other brands: Zippo, Napier, Dunhill and others.
