Hello,
can someone please assist me with identifying this piece?
It is one of three in a similar style coming up at a local auction.
It is quite light, not of metal, I can't identify the material. I'd
like to know the era and the material if anyone has an educated guess.

Thanks

If it is for real it would be bronze with ivory for the face and hands
and some kind of stone base. You say it's light, this sounds fishy, what
does the auction house say it's made of? If they want to sell it they
will answer all your questions.

It is very hard to make a guess as to what it is made of from the
picture. Holding it and looking at it closely are the best and safest way.

The style is Art Deco from the 1920s or 1930s, not Art Nouveau.

I smell fish, too. Look at the "marble" base. Those lines look like
they're painted on, to me. They're too even, all the same color,
there's no fade like natural marble would have, etc.

The auctioneer thought they might be resin? There are 3 of the same
general style, they are from some sort of collector in Quebec City,
Canada.

Thanks for the info. I have now discovered the info below. I guess
if these are original Chiparus they will be bronze, ivory, and marble?

ART DECO THAIS FIGURE AFTER CHIPARUS
Demetre H. Chiparus (1886-1947)
This graceful figure is exquisitely hand painted.
Dimetre Chiparus was originally born in Rumania and exhibited his
works in high class galleries in Paris. His sculptures were based on
the ballet and the theatre.
His statues were always exquisitely detailed.
The beauty of her dress and the intricacy and detail of the modelling
makes this a true classic sculpture with a great warmth & charm

Do a search of that on line auction place for similar items and see if
anything comes up. If they are resin I don't think they are worth much,
but you never know.

"...some sort of collector in Quebec City" that doesn't tell you much.
"Collector" of what? If they collected furniture then these are just off
pieces outside of their usual area.

Look them up, I suspect you should skip them unless you love them and
they go for very cheap!

Good luck,
Marie

If the are original they will be bronze, ivory and marble and should
bring a couple thousand dollars each or more. If they are resin, they
were probably made as decorator repros recently. I seem to recall
seeing this figure in resin in a furniture store, within the past ten
years or so.

I googled the phrase "ART DECO THAIS FIGURE AFTER CHIPARUS"
and found several eBay auctions using those exact words.

I then googled only "CHIPARUS" and found hundreds.

Decorator item, for sure.
