I have a pre-1920 Pyrene fire extinguisher. here's the markings on the fire
extinguisher... I am still researching it with Pyrene themselves but I have
yet to find anyone who can date this thing...I only know from them so far
that its pre-1920....It's in immaculate shape, and still has the original
truck mounting bracket as well. Even the center tube which extends into the
fire extinguisher is in real good shape..... If there is anyone out there
who has an interest in this piece, or knows where I can find helpful
information, please write me at: chris...@mediaone.net

Well, it's not pre-1920. The second patent number was issued in 1944.

The first patent is dated October 16, 1928, the second patent is April
25, 1944.

Here's a large (500KB) printable image of the drawing from the first
patent, #1,688,195: http://ftldesign.com/images/firexl.jpg

This shows a cross-section of the extinguisher.

After years, I am back again. This is still my original post. I did track that this fire extinguisher is from 1907. That is the "original" patent pending for this first series, which is what I have, the first series. I called Pyrene and they confirmed that the handle that reads "Patent Pending" was ONLY on their first introductory model of this brass fire extinguisher.

Anyone else who has one of these Pyrene Fire Extinguishers that does not have Patent Pending directly on the handle, it could be your extinguisher is anywhere from 1916 to 1949.
