Q W E R T Y ...hello, hello??.......think this is it....

Hi all

I have been out of hospital now for two days and feel like I have been
kicked in the groin by a carthorse as well as peeing razorblades
(sorry, but it's true). The anaesthetic has not worn off so I'm still
on a high...but feel oddly spaced out. Anyway, I have got to go back
for an operation, but the obstruction is not cancerous!!

However, I am determined to get back r.a-ing so..what do you think of
this oil painting boot sale buy:

http://195.40.112.14/members/jon.d2/pipeman.jpg

and can you make out this sig?:

Jon

Couldn't face the 1000+ back mails so has anything great happened??

Painting? Early this century; maybe (but unlikely) the last year or so
of the last. Possibly Torquay School. The sig is too hard to decipher
from the piccy, maybe you need to enhance it a bit. Worth, with decent
frame, at least a ton. I quite like it, actually.

Disclaimer: I am not Philip Hook!

Cheers, Laurie.

It looks like H. Chean?s to me... not sure what belongs at the "?", but
definitely an "s" at the end.

BTW, the two most beautiful words in the English language - "not
cancerous" - that's great news! OTOH, "peeing razorblades" are two of
the best "ouch factor" words I've heard in a long time! <grin>

Have fun, Michele

Yes! Congratulations, Jon! I was going to say, "Hip hip, keep a stiff upper
lip," but I guess that's not exactly it. ;) I hope you have a speedy
recovery. Is your dad doing better, too?

Hello, there, Jon,
Glad to hear the good news.

Here is a possibility for you,
Henry Cheadle, British, 1852-1910, genre painter.

Best Wishes

Hi Jon , glad to hear the good news, I searched all the major art
indexes using what I could make out of the signature on your find, no
luck yet. Would cleaning make the signature clearer or is it just
difficult to read ( like my hand writing);~))

Yes Jon, soon the razorblade sensation will pass (ohhh) and some guy
with red hot pokers will take over.

BTW ... has the delayed action feeling gone yet? :)

Go private next time, they use a much smaller endoscope than the NHS.

The guy in the picture looks like either a bum or an old fisherman. To
me, the sig looks like H. CHEAN. But, I could be wrong!

He is an old West Country (UK) fisherman. Actually after a bit of
cleaning the sig came up as "H.Cheang". Putting this together with the
canvas being stapled to the thin mahogany frame, I think that this is
one of those mass produced, but 'original' paintings from the Far East
that appeared at sales in the UK advertised as 'buy an original oil
paintingfor only 50 pounds' or suchlike. It could also be just a good
amateur effort and has a little age as the staples are rusty and the
painting is pretty dirty. Could be a good Ebay piece?? 8)

I also got a nice Edwardian character painting and a late Viccy, Dutch
'pot-boiler' which I will put up.

I must be becoming one of the regulars.....Ronnie is no longer being nice to
me. Believe me Jon, it will get better (right after you think that you'd
like to go ahead and just die), I know of what I speak. I had bladder and
bowel reconstruction surgery done last February.

I don't see that I was being unpleasant to you. I was merely winding
Jon up and hopefully reassuring him at the same time. I have had the
same procedure that Jon has just experienced, that is, a cystoscope
pushed up my willy into the bladder, Jon is fully aware of this, via
our private e-mail exchanges long before his op.

I have had this procedure on five occasion over the last 15 odd years.
On four of those occasions, it was carried out under our NHS and I
suffered more or less the same discomfort that I imagine, Jon, is now
experiencing. On the fifth occasion, I went private (ie: as a private
patient - non-NHS) and experienced no after discomfort whatsoever.
That was the meaning to my last response on this subject .... being,
nice!! didn't come into it. ;>))

No, you weren't being unkind or unpleasant. That wasn't my meaning at
all.....I meant you were treating me as a family member....as opposed to a
guest. Wasn't a complaint, not at all. After I reread my own post," I "
thought it sounded a bit sappy, as well. Then I realized that no one here
knew about my reconstruction surgery.....
Any time you get your plumbing worked on, it's expensive and really, really,
not fun.

Hey now, I have ALWAYS treated you as a "family member", maybe
because, you don't have your head actually inside your bladder and
your posts are always, at least, coherent. :)))

The 'how much pain and humiliation can you stand' might be a dangerous
route for this (my) OT thread to go down, but my final shot is that I
have had a scalpel inserted into my abdomen without local or general
anaesthetic!!

Jon, I extend utmost understanding and sympathies; long ago I
experienced the rotor ruder treatment; it all came back to clearly
after your post. Thanks. It beats flowing out on a sea of shit sans
James I, (I say this only to make myself feel better and yourself of
course). The question always in my mind is; what decent human being
chooses to be a urologist? As for the painting, piss on it!
