My bother has inherited a Fanny Ogden watercolour which has a receipt
on the back from an art gallery dated c.1910 for an amount of six
guineas. I have tried to find out about the artist but have been
unsuccessful. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A university art department, or an art museum, has large
biographical dictionaries of all kinds of artists ... that's the
first place I'd look - women artists, waterv=colorists, or
British artists. Six Guineas in 1910 is an expensive piece (or a
flashy framing job).

It's a little-known fact that the Y1K problem caused the Dark Ages.

Greetings, Jackie...

You didn't mention the subject of the painting. If it is a riverboat,
"Fanny Ogden" may be the name of the boat and not the artist.

Jackie -
I was at a an art museum, researching something else ... I
found a few Ogdens, but none named Fanny. Of course, this being
an american museum, it was a bit short on the English references.
You should have better luck with a local musaum.

Fanny Glover Ogden was the daughter of the Reverend John Williams Ogden. He emigrated from the UK to Canada in 1920, he was quite well known in Canada as an artist and preacher.
