Mr. McKinley and I have been discussing these lamps in another thread, and I
thought they might merit some discussion in their own. I have posted a
photographic study of them here. http://www.angelfire.com/bug/c0/ . We have
discussed the possibility of there once being shades of some kind on them,
judging by the threads on the sockets. People that recall them operational
say there were no shades, that instead they had coloured and shaped bulbs.

With things Art Nouveau now becoming 100 years old, they will pass to us and
soon join our collections genuinely as antiques. Perhaps we can show each
other things we may have that come from this period, or in this style. Mr.
McKinely has a striking wine decanter displayed here:

(may not be up long).

This is a subject I would enjoy learning more about, particularly as it is a
recognized (in North America) Period in American Furniture.

Thank you in advance for any interest in this discussion.

FWIW, I can picture those lamps with bulbs similar to these:

<http://www.bulbcollector.com/cgi-bin/imageFolio.cgi?action=view&link=Antique_Light_Bulbs/Medium_Based_Figurals&image=tulip.jpg&img=48&search=figural&cat=all&tt=&bool=>

perhaps a bit different color (less pink & more orange) but a similar
shape.

Lots of neat old bulbs on that site.

Here it is another Christmas and I am still hoping for a digital
camera and instructions so that I can post pictures to this group! At
any rate the only Art Nouveau that I own are the drawings in my
collection of Oz books by L. Frand Baum. The good witches are
beautiful Art Nouveau ladies.

These are such nice bulbs! This site has inspired me to dig around for those
bulbs I have, to see if they are in any similar. In particular, I like the
Christmas bulbs.
