When going through a cedar chest of my dad's, I came across a
cardboard tube that came from the Jack Daniel Distillery in Lynchburg,
Tennesee. The postage stamp on the tube was for $.40. The tube
contained a woodcut that is from a limited series and is made from a
piece of Swiss Pear wood. The article that accompanies this print
explains the process that dates back to the 15th century. The
restrike is 1351 out of 3000. The print is of Jack Daniel's headstone
dated 1850 - 1911. There is also a write up of Dan Quest. His
woodcuts have been exhibited at the Carnegie Museum, where he has won
recognition in shows of internation scope.
Can you tell me how to preserve this and what type of value this might
have?
Thank you for your assistance.

(*<~ This isn't going to be easy,but I'll take a crack at it. Let's
see... we have tube .40, process 15th century, restrike 1351/3000 and
Jack Daniels 1850-1911.
.40
15th
1351
3000
61 (b.1850-d.1911)
--------
4467
-2001 (this years date)
-73 (Barry Bond's homeruns)
-1945 (year I was born)
-344 (dimples on a golfball)
-4 (daughter & three grandchildren)

Whew ! That wasn't so bad. Value = $100

______
Exactly what I was going to say!
Marshall
Well Doug's proof is very close, but he should allow a little more
depreciation for his grandkids.
I figure the grandkids should reduce value by about 26 each if the
print is in very good condition. 'Restrikes' are like a second
printing. Not quite as good quality as the original run which was
usually 2000. To keep it that way, you should frame it using an acid
free matte so the paper won't yellow. Mr. Quest created wood cuts of
numerous scenes around Lynchburg, TN and his work can be found in
shops from time to time, and in on-line auctions.
