Japanese Painting on Silk

I recently purchased a Japanese painting on silk at a flea market and am
wondering about its vintage and value. The scene is of a country cottage on a
lake with a water wheel in the foreground and mountains in the background.
There is a small boat on the lake with a fisherman in it. The silk is
transparent and the colors, particularly the green are very vivid. The scene
has a very "folk arty" feel to it. The work is signed by the artist in the
bottom right hand corner, in Japanese of course. The matte around the painting
has been inscribed, "To Mom, from Bill, Xmas '56". I only paid $12, so I won't
be crushed if one of you tell me it is worthless, but I am hoping that I
stumbled on a real treasure. Thanks in advance for any help.
