Version, if it's an RCA. I have a CTC-11 and a CTC-11A. The Sams also lists
B-J.

Ahhh... yes, its an RCA. Ive heard there werent too many CTC 20's as they
were trying to use up the last of the Roundies, but was this a upgraded
CTC16 or a later chassis that was modded to run the 21FJP?

Thanks

No, it's based on the CTC-19, the "short" chassis (full of 6GH8s) used
in the first 19" rectangular tube table model. The '-20 was back-
engineered to drive the old 21" round tube and thus create a very low-
end set (and probably to also use up an overstock of 21" round tubes).

I remember RCA had a series wired chassis, full of 5GH8's that was used in
their "portable" sets. Those were really expensive tubes that went bad on a
regular basis. Was CTC 20 similar?

Well for a low end set it held up to daily use for over 20 years! very
little ever went wrong with it, and its stayed operational all these years.
Cabinet is a decent walnut too, my father remembers getting a real good deal
on it though when it was new.

No, the CTC-20('19) was transformer operated and had all 6V heaters,
and mounted horizontally just like the '15, '16, '17 and '25. But it
was several inches shorter end to end. It did tend to eat up 6GH8s. I
tried to find a picture of the '20 in Google but couldn't. But did
find this vid of the set that uses the '19 chassis upon which the '20
is based.

Yeah, IIRC that was the CTC-22, in the 13" portable.
