I thought only Canada had those at one time (now a coin). Anyhow...

I'd be happy to send a 5$US for a 2$US in excellent condition
for his collection. If anyone can help me let me know.

Syl,
There was also a coin for the US dollar at one time, nicknamed the "Susan B
Anthony" dollar. There were almost a billion minted, so they shouldn't be
too hard to find...

I have only seen a couple of these in my lifetime, but then I am a
Northerner and it was my understanding that these were common/popular in
the Southern states, don't know if that is still the case.
A few years ago after seeing a story on the US mint on the Television,
where they said the $2.00 bills were still being minted, I went to my
bank and asked if they could get some for me, they said "No", because
they were not circulated in this part of the country.

Those are not uncommon, there is one sitting right here on the end table
next to the sofa in the family room, that someone brought home in their
change from a recent shopping trip. I have a whole bag of the Susan Bs
upstairs. The thing I never see anymore are the half dollar coins that
used to be common as dirt years ago. I thought I heard something about
a new dollar coin, but maybe not?

They are only worth $2.00. They are not rare enough to be collectibles.
Tell some people that handle money all day to keep an eye out for you.
Most cash registers don't have a place for them and those and the Suzzie B's
really annoy cashiers.

Syl is in Canada. The deuces don't circulate much in the US - very unlikely
one is going to make it cross border. I'd send one if I had one but I'd have
to go to the bank to get it. They're usually available if you ask, at least
around here. They're the sort of things grandparents like to give to their
grandkids. The last ones were printed in the late '70s. They're never going
to be popular though; no vending machines take them so they're really
obsolete.
Anthony dollars don't circulate that much anymore. They ran off a few in
'99, then replaced them with the gold Sacagawea dollar the next year and ran
those off for two years for circulation and a couple more years for
collectors. Now the mint is really pushing the gold Presidential dollar
coins that started up last year hoping that people will collect the full set
of presidents (I do) - I always get them in change from the office soda
machine and at the post office stamp machine. In fact I have three Thomas
Jeffersons jingling in my pocket as I write this. You have to be pretty dumb
to not be able to tell the gold dollars made since 2000 apart from other
coins - the color, obviously, and they have a smooth edge so the blind don't
confuse them with quarters.
If merchants weren't afraid to give gold dollars out as change to customers
when they find their way into the drawers they'd circulate more. As it is,
they'll never circulate much until/unless the govt just stops ordering
dollar bills.
Half dollars pretty much disappeared in the late '60s when they were still
made of 40% silver for four years after other coins switched to clad. So
people pulled them out of circulation as soon as they got them, then we
ended up going six years without ever seeing them, and then people got used
to not having them. Vending machines don't take them either. So they're as
obsolete as $2 bills. I don't think the half is even being produced for
circulation anymore. Same as $2s, though, you can get rolls at the bank if
you want.
Vending machines take nickels, dimes, quarters and dollar coins along with
dollar bills, $5s and maybe $10s and $20s depending on the machine. That's
what's going to survive in circulation.

Syl, I'll happily send you $2 bills, but I have a minimum order of 100
so please send $500.

I just found a $2 bill in my wallet the other day, hadn't seen one in
years and don't know where I got it, must have been change somewhere.
It's not in particularly great condition though.

The post office near me gives out a lot of susan b anthony dollars as
change. People often mistake them for quarters, my brother once got
change for a $5 bill and discovered later that it was nearly $8 in
change because of several of those mixed in.

This one I have here is dated 2003, so they were certainly printed more
recently than late 70s.
Most of the change machines around here (New Jersey) accept them.
New Jersey has printed three dollar bills. It has former governor Jim
McGreevey's picture on it.

Vinny has a million dollars. I got it from an eBay seller with a note:
my customers are worth a million bux...Vinny had me frame it.
Syl
Why didn't I see that one coming ?....8o)
Syl
That would be cool too.
eBay sellers offer those, with an incredibly inflated shipping cost.
Vinny found an old coin for 0,39c but with 15$ shipping. He's only
8 and I had to give him a crash course about eBay. He uses it for
browsing only.
Hopefully someone will be able to help as those are nowhere to be found
in Québec.

I am headed to the bank on Thursday and will see if they have any crisp new
ones
Do you want the new dollar coins as well?

Mpffff... every time we go on a trip or I travel for business, I get
$200 - $300 in $2 bills. We leave them as tips and we use them to pay
for small items, tolls or similar. They give the recepient a smile
_and_ a story. When we were in Costa Rica, the bartenders at two of
our hotel stood us free drinks as long as we tipped in $2s - as we are
not heavy drinkers it was no problem for them or for us.
I happen to think the back of the $2 is the best looking of all the
paper bills currently in circulation.
How many do you want? Cost + postage is all that is needed. My bank
(and several others) love to give them away.

The Metro rail here in San Juan requires that you use the dollar coins
as tokens. They have machines to change your paper money. The $1 coins
are pretty common in these parts.

There should be at least three or four new dollar coins out by now. Gold
colored. They're Presidential coins. I'm pretty sure they have the first
four presidents out already. We have only two of them so far.. nobody seems
to bother with ordering them for our base financial institutions.
Except for the fact that ALL of them have corners torn off.
For whatever reason, the $2 bills were heavily used for betting at the
racetracks. Supposedly many people did not want to handle $2 bills because
it might hurt their reputation -- others would think you've been at the
tracks. As for the betters, many considered it good luck if they tore off a
corner before placing their bet.
The "newer" bills don't usually have torn corners but the older ones all
did -- often three or all four.

Hi Peter,
Thanks for the kind offer. Art has offered to get me a nice one from
the bank including some 1$ coins if available. I never thought such a

Who wound you up and turned you loose? I can get $1 coins at my bank,
in change at the USPS stamp machines and any of several other venues.
In fact, I bought stamps the other day and used a $20, got $3 in $1
coins and two dimes in change.

... and from his website - much more than merely petulant. I am glad
he is in Australia... Anywhere north of the equator and in the western
hemisphere would be a bit too close.
Don't dare format a date like 08/14/08. You'll learn there is no 14th
month. I really wonder about somebody who has spent ten years of his
life going around usenet teaching people about this.

I think the one who needs psychological help is the one rudely mocking
someone over the placement of the dollar sign, then claiming that a
certain real banknote doesn't exist.
Just my view, anyway.

Somebody must have pissed in his Wheaties this morning.
His issue is that it got posted as 2$ and not $2 bills.

Yabbut... Syl did that as a courtesy for him *specifically* so he
could understand the post. Barry is in Australia - and things are

Not only that, but something on his website, besides his attitude, is
malicious and locked up my IE. I couldn't even use Task Manager to shut it

As for $2 bills, I have two 1976's & some dated 2002 & 2003. I'm
guessing the latter ones were limited-issue.

I never see the canadian ones anymore, but I miss them. It's the
pennies that are getting a bit on the rediculous side with a dish of
them on the counter of many places.
I know someone who had a few and would leave them as a tip when he
went for coffee, sounded like a nice gesture. I bet the collectors
won't pay much more than 2$ for them :)
Phil
Well thank you little miss asshole.
In case you hadn't noticed, $2 is pronounced "two dollars" and
by extension "$2 bills" is pronounced "two dollar bills."
Considering that Syl's native language is French that he makes
the effort to communicate with in English should be sufficient.
Why don't you and your top posting nonsense find another news
