Awhile back I posted a link to a radio auction that is going to be
held within driving distance of me this next Saturday. The time is growing
near....and I'm all fired up. This might be the only chance I have to add to
my collection cosiderably. You guys here sure know more about all this as
I'm a relative newcomer to this wonderful hobby....would some of you take a
look at the auction site and give me your opinions on what radios look like
good collection candidates ?? Here's the link to the page again. Thanks for
your input guys :))
Later,
Ben

Ben, maybe Sven would be interested in that Philco 90 cabinet we were talking about. He
mentioned recently that he would be interested in a cabinet like that to build a radio
into. Sven--check out the link Ben gave, and give him a holler!

Bid on what you like . Problem with these auctions is there will be tons
of collectors anyting nice will get bid up high . By reading the
websight they will put the good stuff on ebay so us with little money
cant touch the stuff so be prepaired to look at mostly either junk or
heavy stuff .

Willekers!!!! If it wasn't 1000 miles away, I'd be there. Have fun.
Bet you don't buy just one thing!!! I have some of those radios. A
couple more I'd like.

There's a few nice ones there for sure. Nice FADA bakelite, I saw a Zenith
black dial tombstone that I'd like to get my hands on.....I wish the auction
was here in Ontario, Canada.

Might as well be 10,000 miles for me too Peter. Can't get there. A
little thing like work seems to get in the way.

Which reminds me. I was curious about this the first time
this auction was announced. Anyone have a good guess as to
what the bazinga is that I've crudely circled in this photo?

http://www.gothicdigital.com/stuff/auction.jpg

The light-colored thing, about the size of a chairside,
with a dark rectangle on top. A chairside? A very compact
fluoroscope? The more I look at it, the more I think it's
probably a cardboard box. Boy, am I gonna be embarrassed
if that's what it turns out to be.

I won't be hauling myself out to the auction, so this
isn't an urgent question. Just curious.

You're most likely correct, it looks like a cardboard box to me also.

More like TWO cardboard boxes. One is partially open. There's
something in there....

The last time I dug deep into a carboard box at an auction, I came up with a
Canadian Independant Telephones crystal set - the Canuck version of the
DeForest DT-600. It was hidden under a bunch of headsets, and a homebrewed
crystal set in a cigar box.

(that outta increase auction attendance by a few, huh)

True story, however!

Garnie

Tim,
Looking at the list for the radios...it shows item # 116 as
being a Farnsworth chairside still in original box. I wonder if that's it ??

Ah. Betcha that's it. That would explain the dark brown square in the
center -- it's the goods. However, one now has to wonder why Farnsworth
was so incompetent in the cardbox department. Perhaps the true reason for
the demise of the company? :)

Thanks, Ben. Don't know why I didn't check the list in the first place.
