What I know about it:
It was unearthed about 20-25 yrs ago in Pensacola,Florida ( along with a lot of
other types of bottles ) during the construction of a highway.
What I found in research:
In 1806, a seam of clay was found at Denby during the construction of a road to
link the towns of Denby & Derbyshire. A local entrepreneur, William Bourne
examined the clay & recognised its qualities. Production of salt-glazed pottery
was started in Denby in 1809 & William gave the task of running the business to
his youngest son, Joseph. Know as " Joseph Bourne" the pottery prospered &
built up an international reputation for its quality bottles & jars. They held
anything from ink, polish & medicines to preserves & ginger beer. In the late
1800's glass bottles became less expensive & replaced ceramic containers.
The company is still in business but does not offer a valuation service. If
anyone can help me find the value I would appreciate it. If you are interested
in a picture of the bottle , email me & I will try to send you one.
Thanks
