TIGER CENSUS BEGINS AT SATKOSIA FOREST

Angul - A tiger census began at the Satkosia Tiger
Reserve in Angul district on Wednesday. At least 45 teams
have been pressed into service for the counting of big
cats in a 965-km patch of the forest. The counting is in
progress at nine ranges under two forest divisions. At
least five units are conducting the operation in the
Tikarpada range while 14 are engaged for in the
Purunakote range.
Similarly, 11 teams of forest officials are counting the
animals in the Pampasar range and seven are engaged for
the Raiguda range. The Forest Department has also sent
eight such units to conduct the operation in the Jilinda
forest range. At least two to three watchers led by a
Forest Guard are working in each unit, sources said. The
operation would continue till May 10, the sources added.
