A week ago I returned from Boston/NCMR conference where I had numerous meetings with Peter Miller and Marlene Archer who participated in the Rebuild/Reboot gathering back in October, as well as numerous one on one conversations throughout the event.
What emerged from our discussions was the need for an active and organic effort. We're all aligned with Margaret Mead's notion:
"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed, citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has."
Which is to say we need to grow this network and engage others to share the work of network building. We have to establish an attractor community/space. Towards that end we're going to be reaching out one-one through the old network and discovering the newcomers in each region, attending events and convening BoaF sessions, and hosting online (or telephony-based) working-sessions.
I'm hoping to schedule meetings with others as I travel, connecting with them locally -- -and invite others to do the same. We need to stitch our network together.
We're going to be looking ahead to other events, regional and national that we can get to, where we can meet with folks we know through the network, arranging open meetings when we can.
Next up for me is Washington, DC, next weekend for "Transparency Camp" --- I am open to connecitng with anyone in DC area later Friday afternoon. I'll post this offer up elsewhere. This is too short notice to burden anyone - but I am happy to connect with anyone available. (I just confirmed travel the other day --- reach out to me if you are in or near DC!)
Looking ahead to an event more closely aligned with our field, OneCommunity is putting together a conference convening BTOP/PCC sector in Cleveland this June 27/28. If we can't get on the formal agenda, we can certainly arrange our own meetings. More on that as things develop. With that, I'll sign off and share the Save the Date notice....
Regards,
Michael Maranda
PS --- Let's get the discussion rolling here: what do we need to do? What are you wiling to do?
