Lost your Photos, Audio, & Videos? Trust the #1 Photo recovery software from Stellar. Important benefits of the software are described below to help you recover your deleted photos. Some of the notable features of the software include:

Hello all. Yesterday I shot a bunch of photos for a graduation. I shot some before, during, and after the event. When I got home and looked at the SD card, I noticed only the shots I took before the graduation were on the card.

This was very puzzling, because throughout the day I was going back and looking throught the pictures I took through the camera itself. Why would certain batches of photos just disappear like that?

I have tried many recovery programs, none of which have helped (all on Mac);

I just don't understand how some CR2 files could go missing even after clearly seeing they were recorded to the card. Can someone point me in the right direction of what to do? or suggest a better recovery program?

I did not format it prior to using it. There were some old photos on there still, with plenty more space to shoot about 330 raw files. I'm playing it safe and not adding or deleting anything further from it.

Have you looked at the files sizes of the images that you can access? Try to figure out a rough average size for each of these files and multiply by the total number of all shots taken, assuming they were all shot as CR2 files. Can, or have you opened the card in the Mac equivalent of Windows Explorer? If so, does the amount of used disk space seem to correspond to the amount of images taken? This also assumes that there wasn't other random image or data files left on the card.

By the way, if I'm not mistaken, when you view the images later on the camera's LCD you're not actually viewing a CR2 file. What you're seeing is a separate JPEG thumbnail that the camera automatically generates.

Don't how much difference it really makes but did you have the camera set to "save as" RAW only or RAW+JPEG? Have you tried to download the files via USB connection to the camera only, or do you have a card reader? Have you tried to download them to a Windows machine or to a Mac only?

Hello, I took your advice and did some math, it seems like the disk space is 100mb short of what it should be. If one CR2 file is approximately 25mb, I don't imagine the 40-50ish files are hidden in some way.

330 RAW files at an average of 25MB each would total 8.25GB. 100MB would be only like 4 RAW files and that's less than 2% of the estimated total. To me that sounds like the "missing" files are still there. Though that doesn't necessarily mean they are recoverable. But I wouldn't give up hope too easily.

You'll probably get better results by opening a new thread instead of re-openig a 5 year old post. Please also include some more information on the specific gear you're using and details of the exact problem you're having. And stop using the affected memory card immeadiately!

I added the raw image file of .CR2 format shot with Canon camera and a .JPEG picture. Within couple of minutes, the repair process was completed. However, only one of the photos (.CR2) was repaired and it was extracted in JPEG format. The software also gave thumbnail of the raw image. I felt it was unnecessary data piling. The feature could have been better as an option to the user.

Ability to repair corrupt raw images of cameras is definitely a plus. Further, wide camera and storage devices support, recovery with original date timestamp, and other customize options make it user-friendly.

What I disliked, was though raw photos were repaired but they were obtained in JPEG format. Deep Scan in recovery process takes time. Also, the free demo version, though shows the preview of files but does not let you save any of them.

Overall, I consider Stellar Photo Recovery Premium is able to address the needs of professionals who deal with thousands videos and photos on day-to-day basis. It is multifunctional and fast compared to other standalone photo recovery software.

The Stellar Photo Recovery Premium software is priced at $69.99. It offers unlimited data recovery and repair in various loss case scenarios such as deletion, formatting, virus infection etc. You also get free updates and 24/5 technical support via mail, chat, and call.

The first time we looked at file recovery software was in May 2020, when we published a review of version 10.0.0.3 of Stellar Photo Recovery. At the time, the software was offered in three versions, Standard, Professional and Premium, with a demo version so potential purchasers can try before they buy. The latest version of the software, Version 11.8.0.0 has Premium (as reviewed), Technician, Standard, and Professional versions.

The Premium version in the latest edition is designed for everyday users, while the Technician version which is targeted at professional photographers, video and photo editors and photo agencies. They differ in several ways, with the premium version being restricted to a single installation, while the Technician version can be installed on up to three systems. It also adds ability to recover data from Windows partitions and create disk images.

Both versions can be used on storage drives and memory cards in all popular camera brands as well as drones, smartphones, dash cams and also damaged optical disks. The demo version shows previews of the recovered and repaired files available to download but you need to activate (i.e. pay for) the software to access the recovered files and get full functionality.

The user interface is updated to allow users to initiate the recovery process with just three clicks: Select, Scan and Recover. Users can also select new options within the interface, including Live File Preview, Full-Screen Video Preview, Well-ordered and Sortable Scan Results, Scan Now-Recover Later and Multiple File Saving Options to make it easier to tailor the software to different requirements. This is important since scanning large data files and folders still takes a lot of time.

To save individual files, click the folder in the left pane to view files stored in it and select the individual file by right-clicking on it. (This is where the Preview function is handy.) Then select Recover.

The latest version can also scan drives with BitLocker encryption. In that case, you will be prompted to either enter the Bitlocker password/Recovery Key or Select a Bitlocker Startup Key (.BEK file) to initiate the scan process.

We found the software to be capable of recovering files from an old CompactFlash card that we had previously discarded as unusable, largely because when we checked it out via a card reader our computer showed the directories to be empty.

Stellar Phoenix takes some time to work through a drive, but this is a non-issue because the program can run in the background without a problem. Depending upon the size of the drive, Stellar Phoenix may take an hour or two to sort through the deleted files. I usually work on my photos in Lightroom while the program runs.

Note: This section was written before the newest version of Stellar Phoenix, Version 7.0. Luckily, the issue with the D800e files has been resolved. As far as I can tell, this software now works well for anyone who needs to recover their files, although I still recommend downloading and testing the free trial before committing to the paid version. The old review is still below, but I have updated the final rating of the product to represent the new version.

Luckily, Stellar Phoenix Photo Recovery allows you to try the software for free before you purchase it. In this free trial, you can see which images have been found for recovery. Assuming that the recovered photos have an actual file size (as opposed to the zero kilobytes of my D800e photos), I can recommend Stellar Phoenix without any hesitation.

However, you absolutely need to try it before you commit to the full purchase price. As well as Stellar Phoenix works with my D7000, it is all but useless with my primary camera, the D800e. Perhaps there will be an update to the software that fixes this problem (which there was), but until then I cannot recommend the software to everyone.

Stellar Phoenix comes in three versions: Standard, Platinum, and Titanium. The main difference is that the Platinum software (which I reviewed here) will allow you to preview the images and extract thumbnails before you recover them. The Platinum version also helps repair corrupted images, but only JPEGs. Titanium is the only one that can repair corrupt video files. The Standard price is $50, although Stellar Phoenix says that it is on sale from its normal price of $80. The Platinum and Titanium versions are $60 and $100 respectively.

I'm Spencer Cox, a landscape photographer based in Colorado. I started writing for Photography Life a decade ago, and now I run the website in collaboration with Nasim. I've used nearly every digital camera system under the sun, but for my personal work, I love the slow-paced nature of large format film. You can see more at my personal website and my not-exactly-active Instagram page.

Purchased photo recovery professional version, on three attempts crashed each time during scan. contacted support and got no resolution to the problem. I have just purchased again another copy and now on its first install after accepting the registration code it has frozen on the initialising screen. I am resigned to the fact that it is a shady product and recommend that people stay away from Stellar Phoenix products.

Hey I had the very same issue. Contacted their tech support, Luckily, the person I got on touch with was very nice. After a couple of trails, I updated my system and then tried the whole thing again. It worked!

The Software worked amazingly well. I would say to get in touch with them again.
