Hey all...

I missed the last session (Record session) and was wondering what was
up with the group. Where did Chris leave it? are we off for the rest
of the year?

Anybody want to see a video of Moby's studio and collection of old
drum machines?
http://www.motherboard.tv/2009/10/19/electric-independence-moby

this isn't one of the annoying spam messages we've been getting here.
(what's up with that?)

hope everybody is doing well--making some music.

Fitz,

You ROCK!!!! Thanks for the video. What a collection!

I went to the last user group meeting, and came away feeling that chris was going to continue. Never heard anything otherwise.

But it seems to be (and just my speculation) that it was more of a marketing tool to get everyone wanting and talking about Record.
Which is kind of a bummer. I personally came away from each session very inspired and rekindled to dig deeper in to reason.
Now I feel like the user group was just part of the Propellerhead corporate marketing machine. No biggie, it would be nice for Chris to inform what the status is for the group. A little heads-up maybe.

Chris are you still with us????

Best

Doesn't Chris teach at that DJ school where the meet ups were at?

Everyone is positive. Asking if chris
Is still with us is all. I have known idea where he teaches cause I
have heard back about anything.

If everyone is so interested in continuing we could try and put
together a jam ouselves if we do t hear back from him. Anyone
interested?

Lets try something.
Let start a "song/track" Using only the DEFAULT reason files
from the sound bank to ensure that we all have the sounds.
And we can pass the reason file around and keep
adding to it.

so we can start with a Drum loop/tempo
and everyone passes it around
to one another an keep building and building.

The only issue with this i can see
is reason 4 VS 3 users can exchange files.

Not sure but correct me if I'm wrong. Since Chris is mia and was the creator of the group can he delete the group hence breaking us up, maybe just thinking to much, but maybe let's start a new group and keep us connected? Great idea about song but what to about compatibility?

First and foremost let me tell you that I love you all!
I never expected that there would be this level of desire and
commitment for this group.

First let me clear two things up.
1. This was never a Propellerhead driven marketing tactic. This was my
own idea and project. If they had or have been involved directly, then
the issues that have arisen would have no relevance.
2. The users group will absolutely, positively have meetings again. A
number of situations have arisen that I am/have been dealing with.

So,......Here's what's been going on

1. The space in Williamsburg is no longer going to work. Everyone is
feeling the burn of the economy and 303 Grand is no different. They
have had to raise their rental prices substantially, to the point that
a $15 chip in from everyone will no longer cover the costs. In fact,
for the last event, I did this with a modified pricing and had to pick
up some of the slack myself. When I started this Users group, I wanted
to make it something that was accessible and affordable for all. I
refuse to modify that aspect of the group. I have no ill will or bad
feelings to my friends at 303 as they have to do what's going to help
them survive. In addition, I took public transportation to get there
and saw what a trek it was. I thank all of you for making the effort
to get there, but also realized that this would be more accessible to
have a location in the city.

2. After the last event I went into double-duty at the school. 90% of
the teaching staff went out to the Burning Man festival for an
extended stay of 4-6 weeks. I picked up every single class, private
lesson, workshop, teaching assistant, and open house event that I
could. This required my involvement 7 days a week and had me many days/
weeks opening and closing the school, leaving little time for else. I
accepted any opportunity that was thrown my way. I needed to establish
myself there and make myself an integral part in the day to day
operations, and I feel as if I have accomplished this. In fact, when
the other instructors returned, I was kept on to teach their classes
as everyone was happy with things the way that they were. Things are
retuning to "normal" there now though, and time is returning to
me.......

3. In Mid-September I was offered the opportunity to get teaching
certification in Live from Ableton, directly from the Berlin office.
This is something that I have wanted and felt that I need, but the
cost is not something that I would be able to afford. Dubspot offered
to help out on the condition that I absolutely must take this very
seriously and pass the certification. I have been in Ableton Live
"Boot Camp" for the past month as they are not just giving the
certification away and require a month's worth of outside prep for the
application process as well as the 2 day 20 hour weekend event. The
actual certification event required demonstrations/presentations
testing and meetings to determine if I was indeed a qualified
certified expert in Live by their standards. Although I have been
using Live for certain things and applications over the years, I in no
way considered myself at the expert level of understanding that I do
with Reason. I was actually quite nervous about this, and have spent
an unmeasurable number of hours reading their manuals, watching
tutorial videos, working with the program, and hanging with experts
soaking up as much knowledge as I can. The good news is that I passed
it and got the certification last weekend.

So,....now I refocus on the task at hand of making this users group
happen again on a regular and consistent basis.

On deciding where and how this is going to happen next, I have
evaluated the criteria necessary for these events.

Needed are:
1. A comfortable space that is accessible to all
2. Projector and screen, which I don't own
3. A sound system, which I don't own

Rental of the projector and sound system alone would create major
obstacles.....

The ideal location for this would be a music school in the city that
has a classroom with the necessary items.
As you all may remember, we had the first one at Dubspot. I felt that
this was not the optimum location. It was cramped and had a lab time
going on simultaneously, and we had to be out at the stroke of 9pm.
There is a second floor that is now in there possession, but the
wheels are moving slower than I would have hoped for to make this
happen.
In a perfect world this is where I would do it......
We don't live in a perfect world though;-(

Moving forward.......

There is a location that i have my sites set on for the next meeting.
It is another music school.
I have had tremendous fear of doing this as with everything else in
NYC, music schools and education is very competitive.
My fear has been that I would ruffle feathers and possibly jeopardize
my new job, by teaching closely related material at another school
that's in NYC.
This has really been the single biggest roadblock in my way.

Now, after the time and dedication that I have exhibited to Dubspot
over the past few months, I can say that I don't believe that this
will be a problem. I hope......
I am now at a comfort level with them that I could only achieve by
making myself a fixture there over the past few months, and if
problems arise, I think we can work thru this.

My intent is to have the next meeting towards the end of November.
I will send out an official announcement when things are definite and
solidified.

In reality, I have only missed events for two months. I didn't intend
on having to relocate so quickly and it caught me off guard

Again, I am really happy to see that everyone is so animate about
continuing forward.
I have had a blast doing these events, and it seems like most of you
have gotten quite a bit out of them.

I apologize to everyone for being so aloof. I didn't fall of the face
of the earth or go into the witness relocation program.
I've just had a lot on my plate and have not been keeping track of
time the way that I should have.

I wanted to make my next response to the group a notification of the
next event, but being that all the stars are not in alignment yet, I
can't make the official announcement.

So again, I hope that everyone is well and clear that this will be a
regular ongoing event and was merely on hold temporarily for
unexpected circumstances.

Be well!
and
stay tuned

Chris

CP--

Never had an inkling of this being a marketing thing--lol. I think
your sudden disappearance sparked of the conspiracy theorist in many
of us.

Glad to hear you are well--and congrats on passing the Live
certification and the teaching work!

Unfortunately I will not be able to attend a late November meetup
(having some minor surgery--no biggie) but look forward to continuing
being apart of the group.

good to hear from you -- and all the rest of you!

While everything is a marketing thing to some degree, I never thought
that it was the sole purpose of this group. While attending an actual
marketing event at guitar center recently (which Ernst hosted) I did
hear about the loss of 303 grand. It was a decent spot and travel from
jersey really wasn't bad via mass transit. It sounds like for chris
it's been happy trouble, but trouble nontheless. One of the things
this has forced us to do as users, is actually discover (new?) stuff
on our own. I for one have found a couple of tweaks which can be
applied to redrum to really spark a flame to a beat. If anyone is
interested, e-mail me directly @ daddie...@hotmail.com , & I'll be
happy to share. One thing I am curious about though, is since this is
a reason users group, & record is now out in full force, are we going
to keep this group purely reason or are we going to share our time
with record since I'm pretty sure a large number of us have added (not
upgraded per se) that software into our toolsets. As to kelley's idea
that we start collaborating, I believe it's a solid idea, & I have a
basic drum beat @ a tempo of 93 bpm I'd be willing to share. If anyone
else has a beat started they'd like to share I'm in, just get it to me
@ the above e-mail so I can "play" with it. Until the next meeting,
peace enjoy the holidays, and keep making what you feel.
