studio running pro tools HD8 with reason 4
on a mac and I can't even work!
trying to rec or even playback a song with only 3 audio files in
protools playing and alot playing on reason. when it plays, it will
studder , loop the last 3sec of audio 2or3times then I get an error
with protools, I've tried upping the playback engine for protools an
my reason CPU usage is at 70% witch is the lowest. and still having
the problem. the mac is a g5 power pc with osx 10.5 running. all my
sessions need reason but im told that this only happens with reason
running. no problem with of alone. I'm running reason via rewire using
the stereo pair cause I'm writting parts and tracking all midi into
the reason sequencer.

any help will be appreciated

Good luck. Have the same problem with my PowerBook G4. Pt left me
hanging. Now have an mbox that does nothing. Let me know if you are
successfully.

Here's the problem.....

Reason 4.0 really requires an Intel processor to run properly.
Motorola processors that are in the G4 and G5 do not run Reason 4.0
properly
Propellerheads even have a disclaimer on their website regarding
performance of Reason 4.0 on Motorola machines

Add the processor load that it requires to run Pro Tools to the
reduced performance of Reason and I could see things not working
properly.....

I have ppc G5 dual 2.5 running PT8 Le and reason 4.0. I run it in low latency mode with both processors open full throttle. 99% and don't have any problems. I know quite a few people try to skimp with allocating all ponies to protools, but running an older machine you just have to. If you run it this way you should be able to use elastic time and 15-20 plugins no sweat. Hope that helps.

A dual processor G5 is definitely going to give more juice than a
single processor machine.
The real problem with Reason 4.0 and Motorola processors is with
running Thor.
Thor uses very complex calculations that really require an intel
processor.
I have a G4 Powerbook 1.5GHz with maxed out RAM and have major issues
with running Reason 4.0 in standalone with a few instances of Thor....

I don't know what your projects include. From your description, I
would venture to say that you are trying to run a number of Thor
instances.

If you can get away without using Thor (I hate saying this), you will
probably have better performance.

I will be showing some ways of getting around a maxed out processor
tomorrow using the sample playback capabilities.....

I don't think that you need to go back to Reason 3.0, but be mindful
of what in 4.0 will cause problems.

Definitely try the advice of Trailmix as he is using PT8 on a Motorola
PPC and I am not. I can only speculate as to what the possible problem
may be......

Hope this helps!

  Hey Guys ,
having a little problem!
The last 2 sessions I found myself being able to attend at the last minute.
But, being that I didn't submit my paypal form....I couldn't go.
Is'nt there a way to bring a postal money order made out to
" reasonsusersnyc" and show up at the door.
There is no cash being transacted.....and there maybe others in my same situation.
Your Semie's are informative and some of us would not like to miss out.
    PLEASE!....consider this alternative.

   Thank You

Trailmix here,
Hey, I have Reason 4.0 also running on my powerbook G4 1.5ghz fully maxed ram 160gb drive. I can't run nearly as complex sessions as I could on my ppc dual 2.5ghz machine. Definitely look into a more powerful Mac to truly get the most out of reason. I recently sold my PPC so I could make the intel jump for record.
P.S. I do have a pair of Event powered 20/20 monitors for $325.00 if anyone is interested as well as a fully loaded MPC60 mkII
with zip drive.
Best of luck!
