Hi all - as our community grows I'd like to start a discussion about planning a Reason Conference (I'll call it ReasonCon for now).

It was great having lots of people attend HighEdWeb this year, but I think we ought to have an annual Reason specific event, and I'd like to get some initial feedback from people to start the planning process. So - if you could take the time to reply to this e-mail with initial brainstormy thoughts on any / all of the following questions I'd be most appreciative.

1. Would you attend a Reason conference?

2. What would you hope to learn about at a Reason conference?

3. What session topics / tracks should be included?

4. Would you consider presenting - if so, do you have topic ideas?

5. Would you consider hosting a Reason conference?

6. Other ideas / thoughts / comments:

Thank you!

... and here are my brainstormy thoughts:

1. Yes I would attend!
2. Here is a short list of a few things I'd hope to learn:

What kinds of custom modules people have been writing and what modules
they would like to see in the Reason core.
I want to learn about people's ideas about the future of Reason - in
particular ideas about the development roadmap.
I want to find out about particular bugs and installation troubles
people are having so we can smooth our identified wrinkles.

3. Some possible session topics:

How to report a bug in Reason using google code
Creating and implementing a custom data type in Reason
Utilizing the core / local split - best practices for extending Reason
Looking towards the future - entities in the cloud
Reason object caching 101
Building a Reason theme 101

I'm not so sure about how many tracks we could have or what they
should be ... probably depends on the level of interest

4. I see a presentation or two in my future...

5. I would consider hosting but I think having it on a different
campus would be even better.

6. I think a Reason conference could be really fun and very useful. I
hope we can keep it low cost and useful to schools and individuals
currently using Reason as well as others who may want to learn about
Reason.

1. Would you attend a Reason conference? YES!

2. What would you hope to learn about at a Reason conference? Modules, customizing existing modules, better understanding of customization.

3. What session topics / tracks should be included? How others are using Reason, integrating Reason with Paypal, integrating Reason with LDAP, using Reason as an internal site.

4. Would you consider presenting - if so, do you have topic ideas? Yes, Matt and I could come up with a few!

5. Would you consider hosting a Reason conference? We would, it would depend on timing and size but we are definitely open to the idea.

6. Other ideas / thoughts / comments: I think this would be great. Count us in!!!

Thank you!

Nate

I might as well pitch in too...

1. Would you attend a Reason conference?
Of course!

2. What would you hope to learn about at a Reason conference?
-- What various folks have done/are doing/want to do
-- What people think Reason does well/what it does not do so well

3. What session topics / tracks should be included?
I could imagine sessions or tracks on development, tips & tricks,
support, roadmap

4. Would you consider presenting - if so, do you have topic ideas?
I would be happy to present on in-depth theme stuff, on custom
extensions and modules we've created at Carleton -- specifically, our
admissions framework, campus maps, course catalog integration,
off-campus studies programs info

5. Would you consider hosting a Reason conference?
I think we could. Though it would be nice to travel to one of the
other schools for a change. :)

6. Other ideas / thoughts / comments:
I think a conference would help us deepen our community, which is the
idea, after all... so I'm all for it!

Thanks,
Matt

Yes, it would be good to get together.

2. What would you hope to learn about at a Reason conference?

How different people are solving different problems in Reason. What folks are doing in Reason that might not have occurred to the rest of us. Developing a wish list for Reason.

3. What session topics / tracks should be included?

4. Would you consider presenting - if so, do you have topic ideas?

Not me, but others here at Luther certainly could.

5. Would you consider hosting a Reason conference?

Yes, Decorah's a great place to visit.

6. Other ideas / thoughts / comments:

It's a good idea to have a conference.

Sorry for the delay. Here are my two cents:

1. Would you attend a Reason conference?  Yes
2. What would you hope to learn about at a Reason conference? How others are using it, workarounds, integration solutions, creating new modules, development roadmap.
3. What session topics / tracks should be included? See #2
4. Would you consider presenting - if so, do you have topic ideas? Maybe, but it depends upon what participants want to learn about.
5. Would you consider hosting a Reason conference? Maybe in the future!
