All,

I just noticed this new field on news/posts "Linkpost Url." Is there any info on how to get this to work? My assumption is that it's a permalink for posts.

No, it doesn't specify a permalink. Instead it allows the creation of posts that are really just links with titles and descriptions -- "Link posts".

Here is an example of a publication that is mostly (entirely?) link posts:

The idea is that if you don't want a full post in your publication -- you just want an item that will take the reader somewhere else -- you choose "External Link" under "Type of Post" and paste the URL. Then in blog listings, etc. clicking the title will take you to the external link rather than to any post content. This supports the style of blogging seen on daringfireball.net, as well as where you want to reuse a post but want to write your own title/description.
