The films star the Pokmon Trainer Ash Ketchum and his electric mouse partner Pikachu. The 23rd and most recent animated film, Pokmon the Movie: Secrets of the Jungle, was originally set for release in Japanese theaters on July 10, 2020, but delayed to December 25, 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it was released on October 8, 2021, in the United States.[6][7]
The launch of the mobile game Pokmon Go in 2016 reignited mainstream interest back into the Pokmon franchise in the Western market since its initial peak in the early 2000s; various Hollywood film companies approached The Pokmon Company to gain film rights. Eventually, Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Entertainment struck a deal to produce a live-action adaptation of the 2016 video game Detective Pikachu called Pokmon Detective Pikachu, the first official live-action Pokmon film. In January 2019, ahead of film's release, Legendary has begun development on a sequel to Pokmon Detective Pikachu.[15]
Pikachu shorts are animated short films that are commonly shown at the start of animated theatrical films based on Pokmon, but have also been expanded to fulfill other purposes.[further explanation needed] There are 27 Pikachu short movies.
Hey, I knew that Sun and Moon and Journeys anime of Pokmon didn't get any based movies, the movies were not based on those anime series, but were alternate continuity movies from those series? Ever since Secrets of the Jungle, there hadn't been any plans for the Pokmon movies for ever since 4 years ago in Japan, while Horizons anime series had never received any of the based movies, now I wonder why you think? And if you think that the Pokmon anime movie series are dead yet or still on hiatus? Please let me know? Thanks.
We haven't seen a Pokmon Movie since Pokmon the Movie: Secrets of the Jungle originally released in Japan on December 25, 2020, it's been four years. It safe to say, that OLM (the studio behind the anime) aren't making any movies for a long time.
I knew that Pokmon the Movie: Secrets of the Jungle were originally released in Japan for the movie theaters in 2020. However, sadly, there haven't been anymore Pokmon anime movies released in Japan for movie theaters ever since Secrets of the Jungle. Now I wonder why you think? And do you think that there will be any Pokmon anime movies, whether they're based on the Horizons anime movie series, or Ash's post-Journeys comeback main continuity movies or the Pokmon original anime movies or not anymore? Why?
I never really cared about the I Choose You movie trilogy- I thought the original movies, which mostly served as ways to feature Legendary/Mythical Pokemon in the anime without disrupting the main plot, were better. To an extent, the I Choose You trilogy did this as well, showcasing Marshadow and Zarude.
It's hard to say whether the tradition will continue, as no Mythicals in S/V have been introduced as of yet, and the general storytelling structure of Horizons could make it easier for them to feature those kinds of Pokemon in the main show, without the need for a spin off movie.
So, do you think that a 24th Pokmon anime movie will be set after the end of The Rainbow and the Pokmon Master featuring the return of Ash Ketchum and his Pikachu or will it be based on the Horizons anime series, or do you think that the Pokmon anime movie series is over? Why?
@clasingla Have no fear as I would plan to do canon Pokemon anime films tie in to the Main Pokemon anime series along with Pikachu Shorts. Except this time, not every Pikachu short will star Pikachu. Some will have Meowth having the short end of the stick just for the sake of laughs.
I'm just a little curious when will OLM Inc. start producing a new pokemon movie? If not 2024, When will it be released? Is it going to be canon for the new series, filler, or an alternate universe? Will it be rather longer than 100 minutes in an attempt to break the longest pokemon film record?
@UnovanZorua If it did release in us theaters, We can only hope that it won't be 1 measly day. I'd prefer that it would be given a 90 window along with a little diversity between english dub, korean dub and japanese with english subs. Not to mention Best to make the movie longer and more connected to the series canon.
@UnovanZorua as a matter in fact, I do know how long it takes to write and/or animate as I've been honing in my skills this entire time. It's also the matter of Voice actors and such that isn't done in a few days. It takes multiple takes until the tone is right.
Also since they already got rid of Ash they might get rid of the I choose you movie universe. Or we might have an actually decent conclusion to Ash's story (it would've been better without the To be a Master series but they need to fix it since that exists. It was really underwhelming).
The JP version will probably release or at least be made first because making a dub with its own songs and translations, picking Voice Actors, and recording the new lines isn't something done in a few days. And even in the Japanese side, I remember how a lot of scenes for Secrets of The Jungle (or Koko in Japan) were in trailers but completely changed/removed for the final movie, so it was probably rewritten a few times, even after the announcement. And that must really take a lot of time, especially if you think about how long it takes to animate or write something.
A Pokmon movie is a theatrical film usually released in Japan in July, centering on Pokmon and following, as the main anime series, Ash and his friends. Additionally, the miniseries Pokmon Origins and Pokmon: The Arceus Chronicles have a similar length to a movie when all of the episodes are combined.
These special episodes do not appear in theaters in either the original or the dub, but run longer than the half hour that normal episodes fill. Due to this, they are often considered television Pokmon movies, not counting towards the running total.
Generally, Pokmon movies and long specials have little to no impact on the overall plotline of the anime and fans will argue as to whether or not they are considered true canon. Evidence going either way is sparse, with many details, such as the fact that Ash, Dawn, and Brock having met Dialga and Palkia in The Rise of Darkrai, Giratina and the Sky Warrior, and Arceus and the Jewel of Life going unmentioned when the Legendary Pokmon are seen again in The Battle Finale of Legend!. Other details introduced in movies, such as Ash's Aura abilities as well as Dawn's Lunar Wing, have in fact been referenced by the main series.
It is possible that early on, the movies were intended to have no impact on the main anime continuity, as Mewtwo's erasure of everyone's memories at the conclusion of Mewtwo Strikes Back means that the events of the movie don't have much continuing impact on the series. However, as the series has progressed, more references to past movies have been made, with Ash recognizing a Latios immediately in The Semi-Final Frontier!, despite having only seen one previously in Pokmon Heroes: Latios & Latias, eventually culminating with characters from the aforementioned movie and its setting directly appearing in the main series in Ash and Latios.
Due to this inconsistency, it will be noted in the movies' individual articles when a reference has been made to them in the main anime. The placement of the movies in the anime timeline will normally be between the episodes aired before and after the date of the movie's Japanese premiere, though often with more recent movies, this placement can vary with regard to events in the main anime.

I've been fanatical about Pokemon ever since I opened my first Base Set pack when I was nine years old. Since then, I've dutifully played the games, opened packs, watched the shows, and yes, even eaten those fucked up Pikachu popsicles with the gumball cheeks. They tasted like frozen cough syrup, and I loved them.
Despite my lifelong love for Pokemon, I just never got around to watching all of the movies. I saw Mewtwo Strikes Back and Pokemon 2000 in theaters like everyone else, but I eventually lost interest in the direct-to-DVD sequels and forgot they even existed - until now.
