Hi all! I work at Aalto University and we're cobbling together a consortium for an H2020 call that will look at furthering the state-of-art in virtual environments. This means 3D immersive environments with proper soundscapes, physical walking around the environment, 3D glasses, interacting with the environment, and so on.

If someone from the RealXtend community might be interested in participating as an SME, please contact me directly at tarmo.toikkanen ät aalto.fi with subject like "CYPLE SME collaboration" and I can give you more information. The project plan is still being molded, so you have the chance to affect what will be done. But certainly pedagogical understanding of really meaningful learning is an essential, and capabilities in producing virtual environments (design, graphics, implementation) are a valuable asset to have.

Cheers!

Greetings and thanks for info!

Sounds interesting -- perhaps there are some possible partners here.
Feel free to mention your interest here too if you want but of course
fine too if only contact and proceed privately etc.

One note: we'll be adding at least basic audio support to the web
client in the foreseeable future (have promised it in the FIWARE
context).

Good luck with the effort an thanks again for noting here :)

One year has gone by... We had Adminotech and Finpeda join our consortium for the spring 2015 project call. The proposal did not get funding, but we're resubmitting an improved version for spring 2016's H2020 call. If anyone here is interested in getting on board, let me know.

Here's a very brief summary that will still get updated: "Within this project, we want to extend this typical classroom setup by cyber-physical environments, which will allow to make a transition from studying to ‘experiencing’ and thus a more effective and longer lasting learning outcome. Unlike traditional setups, this cyber-physical environment allows the student to perceive the learning material from an egocentric position with very natural perception cues such as real walking. This will allow for real-life experiences which would not be possible otherwise, e.g. dangerous traffic situations, locations that are not accessible, objects that are too small to be accessed, etc."

Basically we aim to iteratively develop hardware, learning content and learning activities around this topic. Companies involved will get a front seat in the development and can fuel their own R&D with what's happening in the project.
