Henry Hargreaves came up with the bizarre idea of literally deep-frying a variety of popular gadgets and then photographing them. Is it too early for fried food? How about some fried technology instead? Henry Hargreaves’ still-life photography both disgusts and amuses me which can only be a good thing. His series Deep Fried Gadgets does exactly what the title suggests in that he has literally deep fried some popular gadgets like an iPad, Gameboy, laptop and MP3 player. The photos are bold, detailed and crisp like the greasy wires he’s fried dripping onto paper bags and kitchen towel. It’s a jarring sight to see the golden bubbling batter encasing all this expensive modernness and comments on our consumerist ways of discarding old technology so quickly. Either that or Henry’s telling us technology has progressed so far now what else is there to do by deep fry it. Enjoy.
