Take a look at today's Op-Ed report in the NYTimes showing that
Afghanistan will require 400,000
(not 140,000 like Iraq) troops, and is experiencing far higher death
rates than Iraq and we will never
get out of there because they (Karzai) will not be able to
"democratize" the nation. Since both
McCain and Obama back a big American troop surge into Afghanistan,
that should give us a "second war"
just as Nixon gave us a second war in Cambodia as we pulled back from
Vietnam. Vietnam/Cambodia
took two decades; we can expect Iraq/Afghanistan to do the same. We
just NEED AN 'BAD BOY' ENEMY,
and unless Russia returns to fill that group-fantasy task, the Middle
East will have to be our Bad Boy Self
who needs punishment by our Killer Motherland.

I think that Bush and the Republicans set up their protege in Georgia to invade Ossettia in order to create a war environment that would make frightened Americans vote for Mc Cain which is why he floated the idea of Tom Ridge, Mr. Terrorism as VP. They knew that Russia would not tolerate that right on its borders anymore than we would. That strategy seems to be working. Americans are terrified as their livelihoods and homes and futures collapse... just as they did in pre WW11 Germany. They look for the tyrant daddy to take charge once again.

Lloyd,
The frightening aspect of this disclosure in the NY Times, is the absolute
silence with which this Policy Projection is met. BOTH Presidential
Candidates SUPPORT CONTINUING THE WAR IN AFGHANISTAN AFTER COMPLETING THE
WAR IN IRAQ, and there is no noteworthy objection raised. Astounding.
Gore Vidal was prescient when he wrote "Endless War."

BTW, as regards the "Wimp Factor", is a female candidate for Leader of the
Group required to have more testosterone, and/or "bigger balls", than her
male counterparts may "display" or "project"? i.e., Was Hillary Clinton
rejected because she could not erase the wimp-ish female image, even though
she called for the "obliteration of Iran"?
