As we well know, the last attacks on Obama have centered on him
ostensibly being a redistributionist, a commie. The American Right
seems to enjoy thinking of him as such. My sense is that the Right
(though of course they could never admit this to themselves) actually
*wish* for him to become the controlling "mommy" they all knew in
their childhoods. Someone all powerful, who hands out and withdraws,
as s/he wishes, leaving them feeling powerless, mere extensions of her
body, extensions of her skirt. I had thought that American wouldn't
come close to being in a position where a liberal leader could
implement universal health care coverage and such. I have been
thinking recently (with the Republicans' evident wish to see him as a
Commie leader who lords over his emasculated subjects) that it is
possible that the American populace will tell their receptive new
leader (Obama is healthy, but not *that* healthy--he remains someone
who will do largely what his "followers" bid him to do.) they want him
to seem all encompassing, so that he better fits their fantasy needs
for a returning, swarming, enfleshing, mother-figure. Will Obama/
Biden's term(s) be Obama/Oprah's?

There are two sides to the Dependency leader. S/he may be male or female. Bill Clinton was such a figure, operating from the GF posture of the omnipotent Magician, the granter of all boons (whereas GWB, as well as McCain, can only lead from the Fight-or-Flight Basic Assumption of the American group).

I agree that Obama has taken on this persona ... opportunistically displacing the messianic (Pairing BA) mode in response to the economic crisis. After he is elected, this may change again at some point, particularly when he moves into his apparently natural role as "President of the World." When this transfiguration occurs, watch out. It is an inherently unstable position.
