These just make me drool.

I'd love to get Axiom to the point were it could render scenes like this well.

Axiom is already very powerful, and as work gets done to 'catch up' with Ogre it will only be getting better.  The biggest problem Ogre has had (which is starting to change) was a lack of good artists working with the Ogre projects.  I'm sure that as the quality of Axiom improves, and more teams start using Axiom then some of those teams will pick up good artists, and we'll start seeing scenes like this rendered using Axiom.

How did I know someone was going to point out a speed tree? You need to look at the wallpapers on the LOTRO site, find the one with the squirells and look at the trees there.

JW, I knwo it's good, but right now on my dev machine, I get about 16FPS with the current builds.
Although I am not focusing on that as I know it will come up as things progress. Those scenes are impressive and they get decent FPS on them as well.

Sorry - didn't mean to be predictable. :-) Would have picked a Quake4
or F.E.A.R. shot, but they weren't really on theme, so I looked around
for something with vegetation, and have always like the Unreal Tech.
The squirrel shot does look nice. I like the boar by the water too.

Since we're way off topic here, I'll add another tangent and point out
this:

To be taken with a grain of salt, for sure, but maybe the decision to
learn .NET/Mono wasn't such a bad idea after all.

Not too incredibly surprising.  I'm in the job market out here in Seattle, and MS has tons of openings for developers, and many of the positions require knowledge of C#.  On top of that there are quite a few other jobs around here that also require it.  C# and the .Net platform is becoming a very good platform to know, even though at its start there was a lot of backlash against it by quite a few people.  Right now the market is good for people that know C# (at least in this area).

So J.W, are you actually looking for a .NET Developer job in Seattle / Bellevue? Our consulting company is currently looking for people!

Wow that's pretty exciting news and it's always refreshing to see job offers made over mailing lists ;)

I have actually also been looking around at the job market lately...my
wife and I have been looking for a change, a chance to move somewhere
different. I updated my resume on Monster.com and since then have
received at least 3-5 calls or emails per day from various consulting
companies looking to place people. Obviously with online engines like
Monster you get a lot more consulting companies than the actual hiring
businesses, but it looks promising to me. I'm definitely beginning to
feel the itch to start looking for a real opportunity myself, and I
think a lot of my colleagues are as well...the job market is just too
good.

I took the discussion about a job offline, since it isn't exactly related to the list.  A Seattle/Bellevue/Redmond meetup in this area would be interesting.  I've never actually met any of the people that work on these various open source projects that I've used/contributed to.  It's all names w/o faces usually :)

J.W,

Yeah you're right. But if u use MSN you have a chance to see my and
Borrillis faces :)

For the meeting, I feel kinda sorry I can't join you. Sometimes a lil'
hour or so meeting can result in weeks of continuous progress.

Living on the other side of the world does have its disadvantages.

That sounds like fun...I actually live/work in Delaware, but I'm our
rep for some MS stuff...maybe I'll post around the next time I head up
that way. I usually stay in Bellevue.
