It was just noted on DevMaster.net and GameDev.net that Game Engine Toolset Development will soon be released.  Hmm, its book rewritten for people who want to develop game development toolsets, a *very* niche audience.  A matter of fact, I think Wihlidal wrote is *just* for us on this mailing list, and maybe the Purple# and Hadd guys too.  However, its written for C++.NET (and he calls the alternative C#.NET, yikes).  My thoughts: if you are going to pitch game development for .NET (and the restrictions in console platform usage that follow) then you should at least be embracing the simplicity of C# in return, a hybrid solution doesnt seem as worth it: too .NET for traditional gamedev firms and too passe for the the innovative, first-movers.  Then again, might find something useful in it.  Danno, najak, one of you want to pick this up when it comes out? I've never worked with C++ so wouldnt find it as interesting or useful.

I have been reading through the book index and the topics look quite interesting.  It seems this is the first book to be written on this specific topic and that C# is also proposed as a language to use.  The topics seem to be mostly independent of game development (interop, remoting, supporting legacy code, UI design, profiling, unit testing) and it is written in a gems style to work well as a reference book if not an end-to-end read and certainly not a walk through for developing a game engine as much as a cookbook on solving the difficult problems encountered in game tool development.  Sounds pretty interesting, I may pick this one up myself.

Definately worth a closer look.  Looks as if he may be using a C++ engine called nexus?

I've been talking with Graham for a while now about it and am quite
convinced it'll be a great book. Unlike many books, this one skips
teaching the language and goes straight into the concepts, which makes
the book a quality read. It's also yet another step for the slowly
growing .NET game development community. I'm glad Graham took on this
challenge and am looking forward in seeing how everything turns out.
