Using a Data Dictionary Item

Hello,

 

I would like to be able to use a data dictionary item to indicate whether the data is attribute-level, multi-value, or sub-value. 

 

I have experimented with using the second character of attribute 1 of the dictionary item, like so:

 

001 Ss

002 103

003 ALLOW2

004 103

005

006

007 MD2

008

009 R

010 10

 

Is only the first character of the Data dictionary item used?  Can anyone suggest an alternative (better) way to do this?
