Hey guys
How accurate must the  scenario be to qualify as a Real World Operation ?
I ask because im not completly happy with my effort using the Frenchpoint mod. Would it be possible for me to use British or American forces as ground troops.
I prefer to use radio snippets and other voice acting rather than text or hints and finding a voice actor who can speak with a French accent is proving to be a royal pain in the arse coupled with the French units speaking with BIS default American accents it just dosnt sound right.
I have made good progress with the first 2 missions of the camp.
 #1
Seaborn assault to capture a land base.
#2
Splash rebel fuel depot for airstrike, Search for and recover intel from an old customs house being used as rebel HQ then call in a missile strike to destroy the building.

I have 5 other scenarios in the works to make a mini camp.

Let me know your thoughts.. I could always work on this as a solo project and create something else under the RWO banner

Regards  shark .

Hey Tony,

This is an interesting question-- one I've been pondering quite a bit recently. I think it's kind of a grey area-- on one hand, we can never find all the information to build a scenario, but eventually we may find ourselves straying pretty far from the real event we are modeling. My stance is that it's OK if things are not a complete re-enactment, we must distort reality as part of any adaptation. Where things begin to get outside of the realm of RWO-territory in my mind, is when we create missions based on stuff we can't be sure ever actually happened. My rule of thumb is to find a fact or two and center your focus on that fact, if you need to alter things a little to accommodate that's fine.

Off the top of my head, I feel like we could run into trouble with a seaborne mission, since Mali is a landlocked country. As for US and UK, they still don't have any boots on the ground in terms of combat operations, they are only assisting with logistics (C-130's shuttling cargo, arms, and personnel is the extent of it from what I gather), so I'd say you should stick with OFrP. Can you explain a bit more about why you're not happy with the mod? I think in terms of the voice command stuff, you could always consider disableRadio but that may present more problems than solutions.

I haven't yet gotten a chance to try anything out yet, so I can't say for sure regarding Op. Serval, but I definitely think we're still talking about this being an RWO release. You should attach a copy of your latest builds, once I give it a try I'm sure we can figure out if and where things depart from reality enough to warrant thinking about changing it.

Alternatively, if you are into the direction things are going and want to work on this as a solo project, that's also cool by me (I want anyone involved to feel like they have the freedom to do what they want with their work)-- perhaps we could just do a single-mission release based as closely on the facts as possible.

FSF African Infantry was just released, could be a good candidate for your project. Only potential catch is that it seems to list Advanced Combat Environment 2 OA - Extra as a requirement.

Also, speaking of FSF, have you tried them at all? Not sure if they use French for the radio commands or what, but either way maybe check it out if you still want to axe Frenchpoint.

Noticed that you removed a couple posts from the RWO thread -- i saw the older one but not the newer one. I was thinking about your question about how close the missions have to be to count as RWO. More and more, I think we can and should relax any stringent rules. "Inspired by" gives us a lot more leeway than "based on" - meaning these missions are not re-enactments, but just missions based loosely on what info is available out there. When I think more about it-- it's the setting (troops, island, basic objectives, good background in the briefing) that is important about RWO, not being die-hard about only doing stuff that happened IRL.

Hey shark,

this scenario sounds very interesting - how are things, are these 2 missions going to be finished?

Regards,
Mathias
