WHERE TO GET THAT CREATIVE ENERGY?

"The only way the magic works is by hard work." --Jim Henson

Jim Henson begged his family to get a television set, and in 1950, when Jim was fourteen, they bought one. Jim was fascinated with the medium's sights and sounds and wanted to be a part of the magic. He got his first opportunity in 1954, when, as a member of his high school puppet club, he heard that a local TV station, WTOP, was looking for a puppeteer. Jim applied for the job and soon began working on the Junior Good Morning Show, but they canceled the program after three weeks. Jim entered college and planned to develop his talents as a cartoonist, but he quickly got a job performing a five-minute puppet show for WRC-TV. He used the opportunity to create new puppet ideas and learned how to make people laugh.

Jim melded traditional marionette and hand puppets into his own creations, called Muppets. In 1956, through his work at WRC, he was given the opportunity to garner national exposure for his Muppets by appearing on NBC's Tonight Show. That led to appearances on such popular programs as The Ed Sullivan Show and The Jimmy Dean Show. In 1969 Jim Henson's Muppets became part of a new educational show on the Public Broadcasting System called Sesame Street. The program was a hit, but the major networks still would not give Jim his own show. Finally, in 1976, an English businessperson provided the funding to produce The Muppet Show. The series made superstars of Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, et al. When asked about his secret for success, Henson replied: "Follow your enthusiasm. It's something I've always believed in. Find those parts of your life you enjoy the most. Do what you enjoy doing."

We release our most creative energy when we do what we love the most.

You Think About It! ;)
Warmly - Until next time,
