Lustful look could be sinful.

I'm making a trip right now and by my sides are fine looking young ladies. Right behind me is also a talking lady... This is my thought:

My eyes wanders repeatedly to curvaceous creatures in skirts or tight jeans... What's really wrong in looking? After all, I'm not going to force her to sleep with... Moreso, is repeated look limited to the singles (like me at the moment) or married men are also caught in the web? This is what is going on in my mind...

Men, even married men, "look" at women. Some stare discreetly behind dark glasses. Some dart their eyes furtively. Others blatantly turn their heads 360 degrees like owls to follow well-formed legs. But the thing that bothers me most is that believers are guilty of this too... We feel its okay to window shop as long as you don't touch the merchandise.

Are we powerless to stop? 3 suggestions that may be helpful:

1. Realise that mental adultery is a sin against a holy God and is recorded on 'Heaven's big Board." You can't ignore Jesus' warning in Mathew 5.
2. Understand that the temptation is not the sin. When a curvaceous woman passes your way, thank God for making such a beautiful creature. But before you take a second look....
3. Surrender the temptation to God immediately. Tell Him you are overwhelmed by this beautiful woman He created. Humbly confess that you are powerless and ask for strength to be pure. And then by His grace, think of something else.

May the Lord keep our eyes clean and our hearts pure from every sin that easily entangles .. .

Men will not be lost because of their sins, but because they have failed to make use of God’s remedy for sin…

Thanks Bami, it is an ever present challenge for me too, especially when near-nudity is becoming the new normal in some quarters, and sex symbols are deployed to market everything. But one of the verses I often say to myself is this one below, the words of Job:

"I made a covenant with my eyes
not to look lustfully at a young woman" Job 31:1

The verse helps me to affirm that while I trust God to give me grace at those tempting moments, He has also given me some control over my eyes. So I should take my eyes (and my heart) off!

Thanks to Dr (Mr, by the way) Ojebode  who wrote this verse and stuck it to the edge of his office table facing himself in room 602, 8 years ago. I was sitting in his chair one afternoon and I discovered for the first time that strange verse that has continued to help me. I was surprised that even Job -- yes holy Job -- also faced these issues.

Yes, we struggle with this all the time. And the struggle continues even in your mid-40s.  Yes, Holy Job went through it and was frank about it. May the Lord continue to help us.

Thanks for the contributions. Is it TMI to admit females also face these issues? Yes, it takes conscious effort to stop or prevent it.

Bukky, I will love to read your thoughts on females' struggle in this area... We may get some balance and have some idea on what to pray for ourselves in this regard. Thanks.
