Friends,
Please help me to diagnose an issue with my bike.
I hear a creaking / ticking noise when I shift my weight while riding the bike.
The noise is not regular (i.e., not rhythmic) and it happens regardless of if I am or am not pedaling. The noise comes and goes while I ride.
I think it may be one of two things:
1. Spokes ticking at points of contact with other spokes; or
2. A crack in the (aluminum) frame.

I don't see any visible signs of a crack in the frame.
Any thoughts?

You can reply to my email address directly so as not to disturb other list-members.

Thank you.

Tod,
Couple of things to check.

Look at all the welds on the frame. I had an issue on my old bike with a crack on a weld to the bottom bracket. To check the spokes just check to see if any of the spokes are loose. I just pinch adjacent spokes with my fingers if one is loose you will be able to tell.

Good Luck,

I’m not riding - walking the dog instead and riding with Joan and Ann later.

Check how tight your skewers are. Loosen, rotate, retighten. The contact points to the fork and rear dropouts can creak if something is loose or has shifted position.

It is a broken spoke.
The bike is at REI getting repaired.
Thank you for the information.

Not so bad. Hope they turn it around quickly.
