The Giver Book in pdf
The Giver is an acclaimed 1993 American fantasy novel written by Lois Lowry. It's set in an almostchoic society that at first seems like a utopia, but later reveals to be horrifyingly dystopic as the novel progresses. The novel begins with a twelve-year old boy called Jonas, who lives in the United States and has had a normal life until one day, he gets a visit from The Giver, a mysterious stranger who takes him on a tour of Thebes. The Giver takes on the identity of a very ancient personage known as Themis, a being who was chosen to create the world in the beginning of time. The Giver shows Jonas many things including his past and how the world will be if humanity does not work together to protect it from The Giver.
During the tour, The Giver finds that he can manipulate time and space and therefore influence others. With help from his friends and The Giver's own memories, Jonas manages to fight off The Giver's agents who are planning to destroy the society he lives in, but even with his powers, The Giver still manage to fall victim to The Giver's plan which involves him traveling back in time, but this time in the future, he has no memory of his past life. However, he has the means to travel back in time via a device called the "Time Pipe" and thus return to see just what has happened to the people of his own time, to find out what led to the creation of society and if they have any potential for greatness left in them. While in this present period, Jonas finds himself working in the carnival where he falls in love with a woman named Amy.
The Giver deals with much like reincarnation in that, instead of directly receiving the gifts of youth from The Giver, he must keep up his act of caring, building relationships and providing for the needy so that he is able to fully realize his full potential as a powerful, nurturing center. This also leads to conflict between him and Amy who both feel their ways are more important than the needs of others. The Giver deals with his inner conflict in many of the same ways as the characters in The American president. Finally, he realizes that he must do what it takes to help these people so that he can realize his dreams.
