A Pocket Guide to Public Speaking Book in pdf
A Pocket Guide to Public Speaking by O'Hair is a small book with a very simple and succinct way of presenting the basics of public speaking. The author, Robert J. Hairs, is a former public speaker and psychologist who give us a simple and straightforward overview of just what it takes to be a good public speaker. Although he does not go into great detail or provide exercises to sharpen your Public Speaking skills, he does cover the basics and the practical side of giving great speeches. You will learn some of the key moments in the history of public speaking, the physiological aspects of speaking and how to relax before you go on. One thing that this pocket guide to public speaking does better than many others is that it includes several practice exercises to help you get better at speaking publicly.
This Pocket Guide to Public Speaking was originally written as a study guide for a college class that Hairs had taken. It is a well organized book with lots of illustrations and photos to help reinforce the material. In some chapters, he even has smaller, bite size chapters on various public speaking situations. I have always found this very interesting since learning to speak in public is something that can be done almost anywhere and is not a one size fits all job. In fact, just watching some speakers give a speech in front of an audience can really make you realize that there are lots of different elements to a good speech. Learning how to do it well takes practice.
Another great thing about A Pocket Guide to Public Speaking is that it is a very portable read. It is easy to take with you and can be read in mere minutes. The book is also very comprehensive and covers every element of public speaking. If you really want to become an excellent public speaker, I highly recommend this book and would include it in any good library/bookshelf along with other similar reference materials such as dictionaries, introductions to the English language and so forth.
