Make Your Bed by McRaven is a bedtime story written by Dan Christensen. The main character is a very young girl who is very excited about her upcoming Christmas, when her grandma comes to visit. After listening to all the excitement in the girl's room, her grandparents decides to take her brother to Santa Claus so they can see Santa in action for the first time. Everything goes well except that Santa Claus never comes to visit the girl, and she instead becomes extremely disappointed when Santa Claus leaves.
At this point in time, a fairy tale comes into play and in the form of a story book by Mrs. Beeton called "The Nutcracker", which starts to inform the young girl about why Santa hasn't come to see her. As she listens, the fairy tale starts to become clear. She soon realizes that the reason why Santa hasn't come is because he was asleep on Yule Eve and someone had disturbed his sleep with a train whistle. This is just what happened to the Grandmas when they woke up to find Santa Claus had gone.
With this new found knowledge, the girl's fairy tale begins to grow in the telling. Some of the other characters include the Little Red-Haired Girl, who also has very strong religious beliefs (and anger too) and a boy named Blaine who have absolutely no life outside of school. All of these main characters along with several others, like the Cheshire Cat and Peregrine Fly, come to save the day again. The last third of the story includes the climactic battle between the evil witch and the three animals (the four-legged one is the snake) that are trying to stop the spread of a deadly plague. Make Your Bed by Mc Raven is a fast read, with lots of illustrations that bring life to the characters.
